Managing a Successful Art Project with Cartwheel Arts: Empowering LGBTQ+ Youth through Creativity

About the project

I recently had the pleasure of managing a community art project with Cartwheel Arts. As someone who is relatively new to project management, this was an exciting and rewarding experience for me.

The project involved coordinating weekly visual art sessions throughout October and November with young people from The Proud Trust (LGBTQ+ youth) to explore and respond to the Gaia installation, a stunning artwork by Luke Jerram that depicts the Earth as a giant illuminated globe.

The Project

Working with artists Oliver Bishop and Dominic Berry, we wrote poetry and created a series of small globes that reimagine the world, addressing inequalities in a positive and empowering way. It was amazing to see how the young people involved grew in confidence and creativity over the course of the sessions.

At the launch event, we were thrilled to see the small globes on display, each one representing a unique and powerful vision of the world. Photographer Lee Baxter captured images of the event, which we hope will inspire and educate the visiting public.

As my first experience managing a project from start to finish, this was a great opportunity for me to learn and grow as a project manager. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work on this project with such a talented and inspiring group of people. It was a real privilege to be a part of something that will have a positive impact on the world. I hope that this project will inspire others to pursue their own creative endeavors, and I look forward to working on more projects like this in the future.
