Promoting Positive Mental Health and Wellbeing through Printmaking: My Experience as a Facilitator

I recently ran a printmaking workshop with the Proud Trust youth group in Rochdale, responding to the #Beewell survey.

The #Beewell survey is an important initiative that aims to improve the wellbeing of young people in Greater Manchester. The survey collected data from nearly 40,000 Year 8 and Year 10 pupils in the region, providing insights into their wellbeing and mental health.

At the workshop, the youth group chose which design they wanted to create based on their interests and something that makes them feel good. While we did the activity, we spoke about the #Beewell findings and discussed the impact that mental health and wellbeing have on young people.

One of the key findings of the survey was that LGBTQ+ youth reported lower wellbeing. As a group, we discussed why this might be the case and what support we would find useful for our mental wellbeing.

It was heartening to see how open and engaged the young people were in this conversation. We were keen to share our experiences and offer suggestions on how we could better support our mental wellbeing.

Through the printmaking activity, we were able to create a safe and supportive space for us to express ourselves creatively and talk about our mental health. It was a meaningful and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

In conclusion, the printmaking workshop with the Proud Trust youth group was a great success. Through the activity, we were able to engage in important conversations about mental health and wellbeing, and provide a safe space for us to express ourselves creatively.
